The Right to Education in the Context of Occupied Crimea

The project is aimed at monitoring and documenting violations of the right to education in occupied Crimea, forming an evidence base for further legal actions, and ensuring the public and international dissemination of the collected information.

The project involves:

  • forming an evidence base regarding violations of educational rights in the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol;
  • collecting and documenting information on 50 individuals involved in the destruction of Ukrainian-language education, including leaders of the occupational educational hierarchy;
  • preparing and submitting 26 statements to the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine to establish grounds for notices of suspicion for high treason and collaborationism, as well as a precedent for taking cases to court;
  • implementing an information and analytical component: publishing 10 in-depth interviews and 6 analytical materials prepared with the involvement of independent experts;
  • preparing the final analytical report “The Ukrainian language in the education of temporarily occupied Crimea: from oblivion to discrimination” in Ukrainian and English as a basis for further advocacy and expert work;
  • holding 2 public events in Kyiv with the participation of representatives of state authorities, law enforcement structures, diplomatic missions, human rights defenders, and the media.

Development of Voice of Crimea Media Channels

The project was aimed at increasing the presence of objective content about the situation in occupied Crimea and free Ukraine within the information space of both regions.

As part of the initiative, the Crimea Center:

  • implemented an information and analytical component: published 6 analytical materials, 60 information articles, and 20 video materials on the platforms of the Voice of Crimea news agency
  • implemented a comprehensive promotional strategy to enhance the reach and impact of the content: optimized materials for various platforms (including YouTube and social media) and used interactive tools (surveys, engagement with comments) to increase audience involvement
  • focused on developing the Voice of Crimea Telegram channel as a key platform: regularly published adapted content, tested delivery formats, and strengthened interaction with the audience

Institutional Support and Public Awareness for the Crimea Center

The Crimea Center has repeatedly received journalism scholarships and grants as part of the Voices of Ukraine project, funded by the European Center for Press and Media Freedom.

Among other things, the team implemented the following initiatives:

  • conducting a training for the Crimea YouTube Development Center team, as a result of which a niche audit was conducted and a strategy for the Voice of Crimea YouTube channel was developed (11/27/2025-12/31/2025)
  • receiving a grant for the purchase of technical equipment, with the help of which the Crimea Center will improve the quality of visible content and increase the autonomy of the teams’ work (04/01/2026-04/30/2026)
  • journalistic scholarships: receiving financial support by the editorial office to ensure continuous work and development of our media activity (01.08.2024-30.11.2024; 24.10.2025-31.12.2025)

Increasing Understanding and Reintegration of Crimea

The project aimed to highlight the situation in occupied Crimea through a comprehensive media strategy.

Within the framework of the Crimea Center initiative:

  • implemented the project as part of the systematic work on the development of the information agency “Voice of Crimea”, which contributed to strengthening the positions of the Telegram channel as one of the largest and most influential Ukrainian-language resources about Crimea
  • implemented the information and analytical component: prepared and published 12 analytical materials that strengthened the expert discourse on the deoccupation and reintegration of Crimea and were used in professional and political discussions
  • provided systematic content filling: published news materials on the website and in Telegram, aimed at residents of occupied Crimea, IDPs and a wide Ukrainian audience, which significantly expanded access to verified and up-to-date information
  • developed and promoted the Telegram channel “Voice of Crimea”: significantly increased the number of subscribers, strengthened the reach and influence of the platform through targeted promotion and regular content
  • modernized the “Voice of Crimea” website: updated the structure and design, improved navigation, functionality and mobile adaptation, which increased usability and interaction with the audience

Informational Reintegration of Residents of Occupied Crimea

The project was aimed at developing the “Voice of Crimea” news agency by preparing analytical materials and increasing the quantity and quality of news content to ensure that residents of occupied Crimea have access to reliable information.

As part of the initiative, the Crimea Center:

  • collected unique testimonies about events in Crimea from residents of the occupied peninsula
  • implemented an information and analytical component: published 15 analytical materials dedicated to the de-occupation and reintegration of Crimea, including economic and cultural aspects, as well as the reintegration of Crimeans into Ukrainian society
  • prepared articles about the destruction of the Lesya Ukrainka Museum in Yalta and the dismantling of the Ukrainian church in Yevpatoria, which laid the foundation for further research into Russian crimes against cultural heritage in Crimea
