On September 10, Andrii Shchekun, head of strategic communications and development at the NGO “Crimea Center,” took part in a meeting between Olena Ivanovska, the State Language Protection Commissioner, and representatives of the Regional Council of Ukrainians in Crimea (KRUK).

On August 27, Andrii Shchekun, head of strategic communications and development at the NGO “Crimea Center,” gave an interview to Hromadske Radio. One of the key topics of the conversation was the draft resolution to establish a Day for the Protection of the Rights of the Ukrainian Community in Crimea. They discussed the history of Ukrainians on the peninsula, their struggle for their rights during Ukraine’s independence, and why this history today requires special attention and state recognition.

Happy Independence Day, Ukraine!

Today we are celebrating the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Ukraine’s independence. Thirty-five years ago, Ukraine once again declared to the world its right to be a free and independent state. And today, we continue to defend that right.

During a meeting of the Expert Council at the Office of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Serhii Kovalskiy, chair of the board of the NGO “Crimea Center,” called on the Office to publicly support the Ukrainian community in Crimea and send an important message to all Ukrainians on the peninsula – regardless of their ethnic origin: Ukraine knows that they are waiting for its return and is working to preserve and strengthen the Ukrainian identity of Crimea.

Andriiy Shchekun, the Crimea Center NGO representative, attended the screening of the documentary film “People of the Color of Freedom” (“Люди кольору свободи”) in Vinnytsia, which tells the stories of Ukrainians who survived the Russian occupation and continue to fight for freedom.
